01 / FIND YOUR FIT
Is Virgin your kind of voyage?
Start with the way you want to spend your days. A ship can look beautiful and still be the wrong holiday for you.
Virgin is adults-only, with every sailor aged 18 or older. The experience gives you room to make your own schedule: a slow breakfast, a workout, time ashore, a restaurant reservation, a show, or an early night. You do not have to build your holiday around the nightlife. You should, however, be comfortable sharing a ship with people who enjoy a lively, expressive atmosphere.
Think about what you want from the time between destinations. If you enjoy trying different restaurants, choosing your evening plans and travelling without children on board, Virgin deserves a closer look. If you want a family holiday with younger children, it will not fit this trip. If quiet matters most, focus on the itinerary and cabin location as carefully as the room category.
Three useful questions
- Where will you spend your time? A private terrace may matter more if you like breakfast alone and a place to read. A simpler cabin may suit you if you expect to be out exploring.
- How much planning feels comfortable? You can leave space for spontaneous plans while reserving the meals and experiences that matter most.
- What would spoil the trip? Tell Devone about noise sensitivity, mobility needs, a must-see port or a firm budget at the start.
You do not need a cruise vocabulary or a finished itinerary to ask for help. A clear description of a good day on holiday is a useful starting point.

Choose the itinerary before the room.
Compare the whole trip, including the journey to the ship. The lowest cruise fare is only one part of the decision.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE RIGHT VOYAGE
- 01DatesWhen can you go?
- 02DestinationsWhat do you want to see?
- 03CabinHow will you use it?
- 04FareWhich terms fit your plans?
Begin with your available dates, the places you want to see and the departure port you can reach comfortably. Then compare the balance of port days and sea days. A voyage with a different port most mornings can feel busy. More sea days give you more time to enjoy the ship, but less time exploring ashore.
Read the arrival and departure times beside each port. A destination name alone does not tell you how much time you will have there. Consider transfer times from the port, the pace of the activities you want to do and whether you prefer exploring independently or joining an excursion.
Build a shortlist of two or three voyages
- Set a date range and a total trip budget, including transport and any hotel stays.
- Pick your priority: particular destinations, time on the ship, or travelling with a group.
- Compare nights, port hours and the time needed away from home.
- Check the cabin and fare options on those specific departures.
For a first cruise, consider arriving in the departure city before sailing day so a delayed flight does not consume your boarding window. The right amount of extra time depends on your route and circumstances. Include that hotel night in the comparison rather than discovering it after you book.
If you want a hosted journey, explore Beyond Travel’s featured sailings. Read the individual trip page for what is included in that journey. A hosted trip and an independently planned voyage can have different arrangements.

Choose a cabin for how you will use it.
Category tells you the kind of room. Location tells you what is around it. Both deserve attention.
FIVE WAYS TO MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME
InsiderAn interior retreat
Sea ViewA window to the sea
Sea TerraceYour own outdoor space
RockStarSuite space and added access
Mega RockStarA broader set of inclusionsOfficial Virgin Voyages photography. Representative rooms. Compare individual layouts and features in the cabin finder.
| Cabin collection | What to weigh |
|---|---|
| Insider | An interior room. Compare the standard, Solo and Social layouts carefully, especially if sharing with friends. |
| Sea View | A window instead of a private terrace. Solo Sea View and standard Sea View are different layouts. |
| Sea Terrace | A private outdoor space. Compare standard, Central, Limited View and XL options, then check the actual cabin details. |
| RockStar | A suite with added services and access. Compare the named suite and terrace size rather than treating every suite as the same room. |
| Mega RockStar | A higher suite tier with broader inclusions. Look at both the accommodation and the benefits you would actually use. |
Use the Cabin Finder to compare individual rooms and open their deck maps. Look above and below the cabin as well as beside it. A pool, performance venue or service area nearby may matter more to you than being one deck closer to a restaurant. Noise and motion guidance describe relative locations, not a guarantee of silence or smooth seas.
For Sea Terraces, check bed position, view, hammock information and accessibility. The XL offers a larger bathroom. A category photo is an example, so use the individual room details alongside it. If you need a particular accessible feature or connecting cabins, bring that requirement to Devone before payment.
A shortlist is not a reservation
The finder shows cabin information, not live availability. Your fare also affects whether the assigned cabin can be changed. Base and Lock-It-In restrict changes. Essential, Premium and eligible suites may allow them, subject to availability. Bring two or three suitable cabin numbers and ask Devone to confirm what can be booked on your sailing.
Next: Compare fare rules before paying04 / UNDERSTAND FARES
The room and the fare are two different choices.
A Sea Terrace describes the accommodation. Base, Essential and Premium describe the fare conditions and benefits attached to eligible standard cabins.
More restrictive conditions. Check whether the limits suit your plans.
More flexibility than Base. Review the actual change conditions.
Compare the extra perks and flexibility with the price difference.
Fare choices for eligible standard cabins. Your selected fare terms control the booking.
Base is the more restrictive choice. Essential offers more flexibility. Premium adds benefits and flexibility at a higher price. The practical question is whether the differences are worth the price for your own plans. Suites have their own inclusions and conditions.
Ask for a comparison on the same sailing
Compare the same dates, occupancy and cabin category. Check the final total, the deposit and balance dates, the cancellation and change terms, cabin assignment rules, Wi-Fi and the dining reservation window. A lower fare can be a poor fit if the condition you give up is the one you need.
For example, if you care strongly about a particular cabin location, check the assignment rules before choosing a restricted fare. If your travel dates are uncertain, have the change and cancellation conditions explained before you pay. Do not assume that “flexible” means a cash refund in every circumstance.
Lock-It-In means accepting a guaranteed category with the location assigned closer to sailing. Decide whether that trade works for you before spending time choosing a particular cabin number.
What Devone can help you compare
Bring the departure you like, your guest count and what matters most. Devone can review the available fare choices and explain the differences before you commit. The booking confirmation and applicable terms control your actual reservation.
05 / PLAN THE COST
Know the cost beyond the cabin.
Separate what is included, what you expect to buy, and the credits already attached to your booking.
BUILD THE WHOLE TRIP BUDGET
Keep onboard credit separate from the cash needed to book.
Dining at Virgin’s included eateries, entertainment, group fitness, Wi-Fi and essential drinks form the core experience. Alcohol and specialty drinks, excursions, spa treatments and some additional experiences cost extra. Wi-Fi level depends on your fare. For newer bookings, service gratuities are shown separately, so check whether they are already included in the total you are comparing.
Before departure
- The cruise booking total and service gratuities.
- Flights or other transport, hotel stays and transfers.
- Travel protection, if selected.
- Any prepaid Bar Tab or booked experiences.
During the voyage
- Drinks beyond your included benefits and credits.
- Excursions, spa visits, shopping and optional paid experiences.
- Meals and transport while exploring independently ashore.
- A margin for choices you have not planned yet.
Compare cash with cash, and credit with credit
An onboard credit does not reduce the amount due for your cabin. It helps cover eligible spending after you board. A fare discount reduces the booking price. Keep those in separate lines when comparing two offers.
Beyond Travel’s eligible Sailor Loot offer is $50 per cabin for 4–5 nights, $100 for 6–9 nights, and $200 for 10 or more nights. It applies to qualifying Sea Terrace categories on Essential or Premium fares and eligible suites. Insider, Sea View and Lock-It-In bookings are excluded. When more than one sailor shares a cabin, the credit is applied to the primary sailor. Review cabin eligibility and offer details.
Decide what you would spend without a credit first. A larger credit has little value if using it means buying things you did not want. Ask Devone to confirm which offers combine on the actual booking.
Next: Separate Bar Tab from Sailor Loot06 / UNDERSTAND DRINKS
Two credits. Two different jobs.
Bar Tab is for drinks. Sailor Loot can cover a broader range of eligible onboard purchases. Neither should be counted twice.

Example only. Assumes the $50 bonus applies and you already have $50 in eligible Sailor Loot. That Loot is used here instead of another purchase.
A Bar Tab is prepaid drinks credit, with any applicable bonus added. It is not unlimited drinking, and each cabin does not need a separate purchase for every sailor. Sailor Loot is onboard credit. Decide how much of it, if any, you want to reserve for drinks rather than another eligible purchase.
A simple example
Suppose you expect to spend $400 on drinks. If you buy $300 in Bar Tab and that purchase receives a $50 bonus, you have $350 in drinks credit. Allocate another $50 of existing Sailor Loot to drinks and the full $400 estimate is covered. Your new cash spending is $300. You have also used $50 of credit that could otherwise have gone toward another eligible purchase.
This is an illustration, not a promise that a particular bonus or credit applies to every booking.
Use the Bar Tab Calculator for your own daily choices, number of nights and number of sailors. Enter each existing credit once. Think about port days, included drinks and any benefits you already have. Buying more prepaid credit than you expect to use can leave you with an unused balance.
RockStar’s stocked in-room bar does not make drinks across the ship unlimited. Mega RockStar has broader beverage benefits, so review those before buying any additional Bar Tab. The calculator explains the distinction when you select your cabin tier.
We recommend arranging Bar Tab at least 48 hours before sailing. Virgin’s published purchase cutoff is 24 hours before departure. You cannot buy it onboard, and unused Bar Tab is not refunded at the end of the voyage.
Next: See how days on board work07 / DINING AND ONBOARD LIFE
Make room for the things you came for.
You do not need to schedule every hour. Start with a few priorities, then leave space around them.

Virgin has no traditional assigned dining time. Plan reservations around the evenings and restaurants you most want, then use casual options such as The Galley when you want more freedom. Included dining does not mean every menu item, special event or experience is free. Check the details when booking an extra.
For bookings made from October 7, 2025, pre-voyage dining reservations open 15 days before sailing for Base or Lock-It-In, 45 for Essential, 60 for Premium, and 120 for RockStar and Mega RockStar. Older reservations can follow different rules. A booking window gives you access to reservations, not a guarantee of a particular table or time.
If the app shows no suitable time, keep checking as plans change and ask about options onboard. Do not make every evening depend on one reservation. Tell the dining team about dietary requirements and discuss any needs that require advance arrangements before sailing.
You choose your level of participation
Scarlet Night and the Pajama Party are part of Virgin’s social side. They can be a reason to pack something fun, without becoming the purpose of your entire voyage. Check the schedule for your ship rather than assuming a show or party happens on a particular night.
Use the app for your plans and onboard account. The Band is your wearable room key and purchase connection. Review your spending during the trip so your last morning is not the first time you see the total.
Next: Check the details that affect your booking08 / BEFORE YOU BOOK
Settle the important details before payment.
A few clear answers now make the next steps much easier.
Get these four things clear before you pay.
- Who is travelling? Confirm everyone’s legal name, guest count and age eligibility. Solo occupancy and sharing a cabin can produce different totals.
- Which details are essential? Flag accessibility needs, connecting cabins, a specific location or a particular bed arrangement before selecting a restricted fare.
- What is the complete quote? Check currency, occupancy, service gratuities, the deposit, final balance and any separately purchased items.
- What happens if plans change? Review the cancellation and change terms for that fare, not an older voyage or a friend’s booking.
- Do you already have benefits? Tell Devone about your Sailing Club status, Future Voyage Credit or MNVV placeholder before booking. Different credits have different rules.
- Can you make the whole journey? Check required travel documents, destination entry rules and transport arrangements for your circumstances before committing.
A My Next Virgin Voyage placeholder is a future-voyage offer with its own purchase terms, deadlines and eligible cabins. It does not mean you already hold a cabin on your next sailing. Have the actual voucher reviewed rather than assuming the offer described today is identical to the one you bought.
Once booked, keep the confirmation and use its payment deadlines. Review your reservation in the Virgin app and plan the next steps around your sailing. Devone can help you understand what to arrange before departure and what can wait.
